James D. Brubaker

James D. Brubaker is a successful career both as a film producer – credited with some of the industry’s highest grossing films — and studio executive. As President of Physical Production at Universal Studios (2002-2007), he supervised the production of over 50 films in 14 countries with budgets totaling over a billion dollars. Jim most recently executive produced Chef, written and directed by Jon Favreau. Before that he executive produced Standing Up, directed by D.J. Caruso, and Jane Mansfield’s Car, written and directed by Billy Bob Thornton. Responsible for the production of several films including Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Machete Kills, both directed by Robert Rodriguez.
Past producer credits include: Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, and Morgan Freeman; Dragonfly with Kevin Costner; The Nutty Professor and The Nutty Professor 2 starring Eddie Murphy; Life featuring Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence; Gia with Angelina Jolie (Director’s Guild Outstanding Movie for Television); and Liar, Liar with Jim Carrey. Jim executive produced many more titles, including most of Sylvester Stallone’s films in the 1980’s (Over The Top, Cobra and Rocky IV); A Walk In The Clouds with Keanu Reeves and Anthony Quinn; and The Right Stuff (4 Academy Awards).
Prior to producing, Jim served as Production Manager on Raging Bull, Comes A Horseman, New York, New York; Associate Producer of Rhinestone, Rocky III and True Confessions; Line Producer of Patty Hearst, and Co-Producer of Rambo III. Jim has been a lecturer and teacher at UCLA and served as an advisor to student filmmakers at USC. Professional associations include the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, The Director’s Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild and The Producer’s Guild of America.
With a record of delivering studio films within budget and grossing over and above expected revenues for the studios, he produces films that have made 400% – 500% revenues above the budgets, he has a special skill of identifying and producing successful projects that have market appeal and are worldwide blockbuster successes, with a skill to produce film brands and sequels that are as successful as the first and second films. James brings longevity to films in both entertainment for audiences and worldwide sales.
